Overview

The Senior Accountant is a key contributor to the Accounting team, responsible for overseeing general accounting functions with a specialized focus on tax compliance and reporting. This position plays a vital role in maintaining financial integrity, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting strategic financial initiatives for our outpatient addiction treatment setting.

Responsibilities

  • ACCOUNTING & FINANCIAL REPORTING:
    • Prepare and review monthly journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
    • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
    • Support financial audits by preparing documentation and liaising with external auditors.
    • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial data.
  • TAX COMPLIANCE & STRATEGY
    • Support the preparation and filing of federal, state, and local tax returns, including income, sales/use, and property taxes, in partnership with third party tax vendors.
    • Ensure timely and accurate tax payments while maintaining compliance with all filing deadlines.
    • Support tax-related audits or inquiries from government agencies, preparing documentation and responding as needed.
  • FINANCIAL ANALYSIS:
    • Collaborate in the development of annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
    • Perform variance analysis and support internal stakeholders in understanding financial performance.
    • Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting to support decision-making by senior leadership.
  • INTERNAL CONTROLS & PROCESS IMPROVEMENT:
    • Maintain strong internal controls over accounting processes and financial reporting.
    • Identify opportunities for automation and increased efficiency in financial operations.
    • Participate in the implementation and refinement of accounting systems and tools.

 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Self-starter, willing to take initiative and identify potential solutions to new problems and challenges.
  • Consistently demonstrates professionalism and gracefully manages conflict, setting an example for staff.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage Intacct, FloQast, Chrome River, Paycom) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Adaptable and agile within a dynamic work environment

Qualifications

  • EXPERIENCE
    • Required
      • 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably within a healthcare setting.
  • EDUCATION
    • Required
      • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA eligibility preferred.
