Overview

The Accessioning Manager is responsible for overseeing personnel, performance, and resources to ensure the efficiency and accuracy of laboratory sample accessioning on a national scale. This role requires cross-departmental collaboration to drive process improvements, operational efficiencies, and compliance at the local, state, and federal levels.

Key responsibilities include leading process implementation, managing regulatory compliance, and ensuring the overall quality and accuracy of laboratory processing services. The manager will also play a vital role in training, communication, and operational strategy across multiple locations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily leadership and oversight for all laboratories.
  • Implement, support, and communicate process improvements effectively.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of specimen collection, shipment, and accessioning in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Manage and administer the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Develop and standardize testing reports within LIS and other applications.
  • Ensure laboratory facility organization and cleanliness.
  • Oversee laboratory supply management, ensuring adequate stock and cost efficiency.
  • Attend weekly meetings with the lab management company.
  • Lead weekly team meetings with accessioning staff across all laboratories.
  • Oversee hiring, onboarding, and training of accessioning personnel (both remote and in-person).
  • Develop and maintain a high-quality training program for the department.
  • Foster a collaborative and team-oriented culture within the laboratory services division.
  • Coordinate cross-functional communication to support new lab openings nationwide.
  • Monitor and report accessioning accuracy and efficiency, implementing improvements as needed.
  • Work with the Quality Assurance Manager to maintain patient test quality in pre-analytical processes.
  • Develop and maintain contingency plans for specimen collection and shipment logistics.
  • Draft and manage departmental policies, procedures, and documentation within the Quality Management System.
  • Ensure strict adherence to local, state, and federal compliance regulations.

Qualifications

  • EXPERIENCE
    • Minimum of six years of experience in clinical laboratory specimen accessioning.
    • Ability to travel 20% of the time.
  • EDUCATION:
    • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration or a related field.
    • MBA or Master’s degree in a related field (preferred).
