Overview

The Laboratory Director will have full responsibility for overseeing personnel, financials, and resources to ensure the overall fitness of the laboratory operation on a national platform.  This individual will work cross-departmentally to communicate key process changes, departmental efficiencies, and operational outputs.  The director will ensure compliance and regulatory adherence on a local, state, and federal level.  Moreover, key initiatives include evaluating and implementing processes for the efficient and cost-effective operation of laboratory services; educating and leading personnel; and ensuring the overall quality of lab services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction daily across all laboratories.
  • Effectively support, implement, and communicate process changes.
  • Manage lab equipment utilization, servicing, and replacement.
  • Responsible for overseeing facilities’ maintenance and cleanliness.
  • Manage lab supply needs of the centers and full-scale laboratories ensuring stock and pricing are adequate.
  • Lead weekly meetings with the lab management company and laboratory staff for each laboratory in conjunction with the Quality Assurance Manager.
  • Oversee hiring and training of laboratory personnel.
  • Supervise and maintain a team of leaders across lab operations.
  • Effectively communicate cross-functionally to open and maintain new laboratories.
  • Review data outputs of the laboratory’s accuracy and efficiency ultimately implementing necessary action to resolve any outages.
  • Implement and maintain patient test quality management, pre-analytical, analytic and post-analytic processes.
  • Working knowledge of instrument and LIS software platforms (LabSolutions, SLS, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of analytical instruments (Shimadzu 8040 LCMS, Synermed IR1200, etc).
  • Oversee scheduled maintenance, corrective actions, and troubleshooting to assure results in quality and performance efficiency through the maintaining of written records.
  • Manage and draft policies, procedures, and forms for the laboratory Quality Management System.
  • Ensure compliance and regulatory adherence at the local, state, and federal levels.

Qualifications

  • EXPERIENCE
    • At least six years of related clinical toxicology experience in laboratory operations.
    • Proficiency in LCMS toxicology testing required.
    • Ability to travel 20%.
    • CLIA qualified as Technical Supervisor required.
    • CLIA qualified as Laboratory Director, preferred
  • EDUCATION:
    • College degree in chemistry or related science.
    • MBA or Ph.D. in a related field preferred.
